Returning
I began this photography project in my grandmother's kitchen, remembering the lasagna she made in the same toaster oven when I was a kid. I had been away a long time.
My family has lived in a small farming community in eastern North Carolina for over 200 years, and the land has been passed down through the generations. For years I denied the pull of the past and broke with tradition to find my own path. But some connections cannot be broken. Sometimes gravity takes over.
I returned in time to spend the last few months of my grandmother’s life with her. I returned in time to wander through the land of my childhood, of so many childhoods, before we were forced to sell and set our sites on the future instead of the past. I returned in time to realize my family is my muse.
